The Dënäkär Zho Film Lab is an opportunity for Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in citizens create a work in film. For the 25th anniversary of the Dawson City Film Festival, five members from the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in community, are invited to create a work on analog film (5 minutes or less). Invited artists would be paid an honorarium.
The projects will be created on 8mm or 16mm (black and white) film and finished digitally.
The film will be hand processed in eco-friendlly developers created by foraging local plants.
Previous film experience is not required. Technicians/mentors will be hired to assist in the process.
The creative aspects of each piece will be in the hands of the selected artists.
Artists will be mentored in:
• pre-production planning of their projects
• shooting with 16mm or Super8 cameras
• eco-processing the film and then digitally transferring
• post production picture and sound editing
• exporting final project for projection.
Each piece would be premiered at the 25th Dawson City International Short Film Festival. (March 2024)
