Nun Cho Ga Visioning Workshop and Community Presentations

In a groundbreaking discovery that captivated the world, a mummified baby woolly mammoth named Nun Cho Ga (Hän for ‘big baby animal’) was unearthed within Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in Traditional Territory. This remarkable find, heralded as the most complete mummified mammoth in North America, holds immense significance for the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in people and their cultural heritage.

Recognizing the importance of this discovery and future findings, the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in established a committee composed of esteemed Elders: John Flynn, Kris Janus, Clara Van Bibber, Victor Henry, and Patty Sidney, appointed by the Elders Council to guide the community in managing these treasures with our own laws and traditions. Through visionary sessions rooted in storytelling, the committee aims to shape the approach to working with external governments and research groups while maintaining control over all aspects of these discoveries.
