Winter is coming. Message from the Housing and Infrastructure team

Greetings from the Housing and Infrastructure team. We would like to remind tenants that with winter arriving soon, we should all be doing a winter check to ensure the unit and yards are ready for the winter. Please ensure the yard area is tidy and that there are no barriers of access to the fuel tank or electrical meter of your unit.

Turn on your bleeders

Turn off your outside water lines and drain the faucet and line to prevent freezing of the line or splitting of the faucet also your water bleeders are to be turned on by October 15.

Check your windows

Ensure that your windows and doors close and seal properly, weather stripping is intact, lock and latch assemblies work without trouble. If you require assistance or are unsure of how to turn off/on the appropriate water line, contact Housing. Set HRV (heat recovery ventilator) or humidistat to 30% during the winter to remove the humidity and prevent moisture build up in your unit. this will prevent icing of windows, doors and stop mold growth.

Get ready for snow

A reminder that the tenant is responsible for keeping their walkways, steps, garbage stands, and all access lanes cleared of snow. The Tr’ëhudè Crew will be available for clearing the snow for Elders, but we encourage the younger family members living with them to help with the snow removal from the unit. minor repairs and maintenance of the unit is the responsibility of the tenant examples are clogged toilets and drains, minor adjustments to doors, closets etc.…

Organize a check in.

Tenants must arrange to have someone reside in the premises if they are away from the unit for more than twenty-four (24) hours from October 1 to March 31 or have an approved monitoring company check the rental unit to ensure no-freeze up or damages to the unit. A check-up must include a flush of all water lines for five minutes minimum; this means all taps must be turned on for five minutes to ensure the water line and the sewer line is thawed ideally this should be twice in 24 hours.
