Housing & Infrastructure

The Housing and Infrastructure Department manages all Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in properties, infrastructure, and assets.

Maintenance of existing housing is focused on improving the condition and energy efficiency of our older units. We have also been working on an Elders Tuesday, where our team prioritizes both urgent and minor repairs and work order requests for Elders. In 2024, four new housing units will be allocated to Citizens by the housing committee. We also expect to build another eight units in 2024, consisting of two- and three-bedroom houses. Additionally, we are advancing the development of and Elders complex, having secured funding through National Indigenous Collaborative Housing Inc. (NICHI).

Our commercial building maintenance team is prioritizing energy efficiency, and partnerships with Yukon and federal governments are key to securing the funding required for major upgrades of our buildings. Ongoing development of infrastructure suitable for departments includes design of the Ni’ehłyat Nidähjì’ (Our Families, Our Future) building space, planning for a Heritage Complex, upgrades, and new construction at Nänkäk Chèholay, and the renovation of existing buildings within our inventory.

We also continue to acquire, store, and maintain various assets, vehicles, and equipment. Surplus items are periodically disposed of via silent auction, with priority given to Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in Citizens.
