Land Use and Resource Planning

Regional Land Use Planning

TH is an active participant in regional land use planning under Chapter 11 of our Final Agreement. The Dawson Regional Land Use Planning process iis currently underway. Learn more about it here.

In August 2019, The Peel  Watershed Regional Land Use Plan was signed by representatives from Tr’;ondëk Hwëch’in, the First Nation of Na-Cho Nyäk Dun, the Vuntut Gwitchin Government, the Gwich’in Tribal Council, and the Government of Yukon. You can download a copy of the approved plan here.

Settlement Land Planning

The Land and Resources branch is also responsible for planning TH settlement land parcels. The Central Tr’ondëk Land Management Area Regulations require land use plans for some Klondike Highway and Sunnydale/West Dawson parcels before Council can grant land on those parcels. Please consult the regulations for a complete list.

Dawson Forest Resources Management Plan

In March 2013, TH and Yukon Government (YG) signed off on a forest management plan for TH Traditional Territory. The Dawson Forest Resources Management Plan is currently in the early stages of implementation. Over the next two years, TH and YG will work together to identify forest resources in the region and develop Annual Allowable Cut (AAC) rules that will allow for responsible and sustainable timber harvest that does not negatively affect values like traditional use and wildlife habitat.
